step. The thread, the score and the reason in them belong to that example and are not a
measurement of anything. We read no other tool for this page and priced none, and we did not

## What arrives in Slack?

A Redwatcher alert in Slack is one message per thread, posted by Redwatcher as an app into the
channel you chose. The message carries the score out of 100, whether the match is a post or a
comment, the subreddit, how long ago it was posted, the title, the matching text, and a line that
starts *Why* and gives the reason for the score. Under it are three buttons: *View on Reddit*, which opens the thread, *Wrong scoring*, which opens a page where you say what was wrong with the score and the answer becomes a rule that every later match is judged against, and *Open inbox*, which opens the project's inbox, where every match is kept with its score. A footer names the project, which is one brand or client on Redwatcher with its own keywords, subreddits and channels, and the term that matched. In the screenshot below the thread scored 94, and
the reason says it is a buying decision in progress, with the requirements and the budget
stated.

## How do you connect Slack to Redwatcher?

To connect Slack, choose Slack among the four channels on the Alerts step of setup, or on the
Setup screen of a project that already exists, and press *Add to Slack*. Slack then asks which
channel Redwatcher should post in, and that is the only permission it asks for: Redwatcher can
post into that channel and nothing else in your workspace. Back in Setup the channel shows as connected, with nothing to paste or keep, and a *Send a test* button posts a real message so you see it arrive before the first alert. To post somewhere else, reconnect and pick a different
channel. The Alerts step is the last one in setup, and it can be finished later from Setup, so a
project can be created first and connected to Slack afterwards.

## When does a Slack alert go out?

A Slack alert goes out every time a thread clears your bar, which is the minimum score you set for a thread to be sent. The alert goes out as soon as Redwatcher has scored the thread above your bar, and Redwatcher checks every subreddit you track around the clock, multiple times every hour, on every plan. Of the four channels, Slack suits a team that answers threads together from one channel. Telegram suits a person or a small group reading on a phone, and [Reddit alerts to Telegram](/reddit-alerts-to-telegram) describes that message. Email suits anyone who works from an inbox, and each time Redwatcher checks, every thread that cleared the bar arrives together in one message, described on [Reddit alerts by email](/reddit-alerts-by-email). The webhook suits Zapier, Make or your own system. A project can have more than one channel, and the same thread goes to each of them.

## What if your workspace needs admin approval for apps?

If your Slack workspace needs an admin to approve new apps, Redwatcher has a second path that
needs no app: press *Paste a webhook URL instead*. In Slack, open Apps, choose Incoming
Webhooks, press Add to Slack there, pick the channel, and paste the URL Slack gives you into
Redwatcher's *Incoming webhook URL* field. The alert that arrives is the same message, and the
*Send a test* button works the same way. A link under the webhook URL field takes you back to the Add to Slack button if the approval comes through later.

## Who sees a Redwatcher alert in Slack?

Every member of the channel sees a Redwatcher alert, so whoever answers threads for the brand can take one without logging in to Redwatcher. Each brand or client on Redwatcher is its own project with its own channels, so
an agency posts each client's alerts into that client's own Slack channel, and every plan has
unlimited team members on the Redwatcher side. The *Open inbox* button on the message takes a
team member to the project's inbox, where every match is kept with its score. Read from

## What does the Slack integration not do?

Redwatcher's Slack integration does not read anything in your workspace. Redwatcher does not write or post replies on Reddit, because posting under your name carries account consequences that have been publicly
reported, so the *View on Reddit* button takes you to the thread and you write the answer from your
own account.

## What does Slack cost with Redwatcher?

### How do you stop Reddit alerts going to Slack?
Reddit alerts to Slack stop when you press Remove on the Slack row of a project's Setup. The
channel is gone and nothing else changes: the project keeps checking its subreddits, every thread
above your bar still lands in the inbox, and any other channel on the project keeps receiving.
To post somewhere else instead, press Add to Slack again and pick the new channel.

### Can you fix a wrong score from Slack?
A wrong score can be corrected from Slack on Redwatcher: the Wrong scoring button on the message opens a page for that thread where you say what was wrong, and it becomes a rule that every later match is judged against. The thread is re-scored, and the rule is kept with the project's
other scoring rules, where it can be read and edited later.

### Does Redwatcher post replies to Reddit from Slack?
Redwatcher does not post replies to Reddit from Slack or from anywhere else. The View on Reddit
button opens the thread, and you write the answer yourself from your own account, because
posting under your name carries account consequences that have been publicly reported.
