# What happened to GummySearch, and what to do before it shuts down

Canonical: https://redwatcher.com/what-happened-to-gummysearch

**In short**

**GummySearch, a Reddit audience-research tool, closed to new signups, purchases and renewals on
30 November 2025 and shuts down entirely on 1 December 2026, when all user data is deleted.** Paid
accounts run until their billing period ends. Its founder said on 6 November 2025 that it could
not get a commercial licence for Reddit's Data API.

If you still have an account, export your keywords and saved audiences before then.

GummySearch did two jobs, audience research and keyword tracking, and only the second one can be
replaced with another tool.

[Redwatcher](/) is a Reddit monitoring tool. Tracks keywords, brand mentions and competitors across
the subreddits you choose, scores every match for relevance, and alerts by email, Slack, Telegram or
webhook around the clock. From $29/month per project. It replaces GummySearch's keyword tracking.
It does not do audience research. [The comparison page](/gummysearch-alternative) puts the two
side by side.

## When does GummySearch shut down?

GummySearch stopped taking new signups, purchases and renewals on 30 November 2025, and it will
switch off entirely on 1 December 2026. Between those two dates it runs for people who had already
paid, and nothing renews. The timeline below is the one its founder published on 6 November 2025,
with the 30 November notice filling in the details.

| Date | What happened, in GummySearch's own words |
| --- | --- |
| 6 November 2025 | The closure is announced: "Starting November 30th, 2025, GummySearch will serve paid customers only and stop accepting new signups or renewals." |
| 6 to 30 November 2025 | "GummySearch and payments remain fully available. Last chance to upgrade." |
| 30 November 2025 | "GummySearch is now closed for business." Signups, purchases and renewals stop. The free tier is switched off, except for exporting or deleting an account |
| 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026 | "Transition year: available to past customers only, no new payments." A subscription runs to the end of its billing period and then cancels |
| 30 November 2026 | Lifetime-deal access ends. The last annual subscriptions, bought just before it closed, expire around this date |
| **1 December 2026** | **"GummySearch shuts down entirely, all user data deleted."** |

The banner reads “GummySearch is closed as of 11/30/2025.” The product behind it still runs for people who paid before that date.")

## Why did GummySearch close?

Because GummySearch could not get a commercial licence for Reddit's Data API. That is the reason its founder
gave on 6 November 2025, and the 30 November notice repeats it in one line: the shutdown is "to
comply with Reddit's API policies, which forbid commercial applications."

> "While GummySearch has been working with Reddit to obtain a commercial license for compliant
> access to Reddit's Data API, we were not able to reach an agreement that aligns with Reddit's
> Data API Usage policies. As a result, GummySearch must become a non-commercial product by the end
> of November or shut down."
>
> — [gummysearch.com/final-chapter](https://gummysearch.com/final-chapter/), 6 November 2025

The same page says why GummySearch did not carry on without a licence. The founder wrote that
many products do use Reddit's API without one, and that they did not want to run a business that
could lose its data access on any given day. The page also says why the free tier went at the same
time: it was paid for out of subscription revenue, and there was none coming in.

## Was GummySearch a one-person company?

Yes. GummySearch was built and run by one person, its founder, for four years, by their own
account on the announcement page, and the founder signed both closure notices. The
6 November 2025 announcement says "over 135,000 founders, marketers, and investors" had used it,
and the 30 November notice, 24 days later, says "over 140,000". Both figures are GummySearch's own,
read from [gummysearch.com/final-chapter](https://gummysearch.com/final-chapter/) and
[gummysearch.com/closing-time](https://gummysearch.com/closing-time/) on 18 September 2026.

The announcement also says the founder was open to selling GummySearch to a buyer holding a Reddit
commercial API licence. On 18 September 2026 the site still carried the closure banner and the
1 December 2026 shutdown date, so nothing on it said that a sale had kept the product alive.

## How much did GummySearch cost?

$29, $59 or $199 a month, with a free tier limited to 50 keyword searches and 33% off for paying
annually. The pricing page still shows all four plans on 18 September 2026, behind a banner saying
the product is closed, and none of them can be bought.

| | Free | Starter | Pro | Mega |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Price | $0 | $29 a month | $59 a month | $199 a month |
| Annual billing | not offered | 33% off | 33% off | 33% off |
| Keyword searches | 50 | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited |
| Keyword tracking | no | yes | yes | yes |

| Multiple users | no | no | no | "coming soon" |

Read from [gummysearch.com/pricing](https://gummysearch.com/pricing/) on 18 September 2026.

There were also day passes, sold as a day of Pro access. Anyone still holding one can use it during
the transition year, and none have been sold since 30 November 2025.

## Is GummySearch still worth it?

If you do not already have an account, no, because GummySearch cannot be bought. If you were
paying on 30 November 2025 you keep whatever plan you had until your billing period ends, and it
then cancels on its own. A monthly plan bought that month ran out in December 2025. An annual plan
bought on 30 November 2025, the last day one was sold, runs to 30 November 2026, the day before
the deletion date.
Lifetime deals run to 30 November 2026.

Free accounts still exist for one purpose. You can log in, download an export of your account
data, or delete the account, and nothing else works. Every account, paid or free, is deleted in
December 2026.

## What should I export from GummySearch before 1 December 2026?

Log in while the account is still there and download the export, which GummySearch's closure
notice says is available inside the product. Take out the two lists a monitoring tool can use
straight away: the keywords you tracked and the subreddits in each audience you saved. Do it well
before 1 December 2026.

These are the three things worth keeping in a form you can paste anywhere:

- **The keywords you tracked.** Every monitoring tool starts from a list of words, and you already
  have one.
- **The subreddits behind each saved audience.** GummySearch grouped subreddits into named
audiences. The names mean nothing outside it, and the subreddit list inside each one is the
part that took work to build.
- **Any saved searches or reports you still go back to.** No monitoring tool does the research
side of GummySearch, so a report you have not copied out is gone on 1 December 2026.

## Which half of GummySearch does a monitoring tool replace?

The keyword-tracking half. GummySearch did two jobs, and its pricing page priced them separately:
research on every plan, and keyword tracking from $29 on Starter.

| What GummySearch did | What Redwatcher does |
| --- | --- |
| Browse and rank subreddits, group them into audiences, see what a community keeps talking about | No. Redwatcher suggests subreddits from your website during setup, and does no audience research |
| Track a keyword and hear when it is mentioned again | Yes. This is the whole product |
| Slack or Discord delivery, from $59 | Email, Slack, Telegram and a webhook on every size. No Discord |
| Keyword tracking. Its pricing page does not mention relevance scoring | Every match is scored from 0 to 100 with the reasons, and only what clears your bar is sent |

Price is per project: $29 a month for 25 keywords and 25 subreddits, $49 for 50 and 50, and
$89 for 100 and 100, with every feature on every size. GummySearch's prices read from
[gummysearch.com/pricing](https://gummysearch.com/pricing/) and Redwatcher's from
[redwatcher.com/pricing](/pricing), both on 18 September 2026.

![The Redwatcher inbox for a Klaviyo project: a thread scored 94, a competitor comparison scored 88, and a job post scored 24 and skipped, each with the reasons underneath](img/product-inbox.webp "**The Redwatcher inbox, captured 31 August 2026.** Every thread shows its score, the word that matched is highlighted in the title, and the reasons are underneath.")

Which one to pick: Redwatcher, if what you will miss is hearing about new mentions, because it
does that job on every size and scores each match before it is sent. If what you will miss is the
research, no monitoring tool replaces it, Redwatcher included.

## What are the alternatives to GummySearch?

For keyword tracking, a Reddit monitoring tool. Redwatcher is one, from $29 a month, and
[our ranked list](/best-reddit-monitoring-tools) scores the tools in this category against five
published criteria, with the reason for every score and the date each vendor's page was read.

For the research half, no monitoring tool is a replacement.
[GummySearch's own alternatives page](https://gummysearch.com/gummysearch-alternatives/), read on
18 September 2026, lists seven tools with a note that
some of the links may be affiliate links: one cross-platform research product, one pain-point
analysis tool, four Reddit lead-generation tools, one of which the page describes as an AI agent
that promotes your product, and one full-service agency described as starting at $5,000 a month.
Those are a different kind of product from a monitoring tool. Redwatcher finds the thread, scores
it and links you to it, and does not write or post replies, on purpose.

## What other questions do people ask about GummySearch?

Whether GummySearch is shut down, why it closed, what it cost, who made it, what happens to the
data, and what to use now.

### What happened to GummySearch?
GummySearch closed to new signups, purchases and renewals on 30 November 2025, after its founder announced
on 6 November that it could not get a commercial licence for Reddit's Data API. It keeps running
for people who had already paid, until their billing period ends, and shuts down entirely on
1 December 2026, when all user data is deleted. Read from gummysearch.com on 18 September 2026.

### Is GummySearch shut down?
Partly. Nobody has been able to buy GummySearch, sign up or renew since 30 November 2025, and free accounts
can only export or delete their data. Paid accounts that were active on that date keep working
until their term ends. The full shutdown, with every account deleted, is dated 1 December 2026 on
its own announcement page.

### Why did GummySearch close?
GummySearch's founder wrote on 6 November 2025 that it had been working with Reddit to obtain a
commercial licence for its Data API and was "not able to reach an agreement that aligns with
Reddit's Data API Usage policies". The choice was to become non-commercial or shut down, and the
founder chose to close the business and keep the product running for existing customers until
their plans end.

### Is GummySearch worth it?
If you do not already have an account, no, because GummySearch cannot be bought. If you had a paid plan on 30 November 2025 you keep it until it expires, so use it while it runs and export what
you need before it goes. Lifetime deals run to 30 November 2026, and every account is deleted in
December 2026.

### How much did GummySearch cost?
$29 a month for Starter, $59 for Pro and $199 for Mega, with a free tier limited to 50 keyword
searches and 33% off for paying annually. Keyword tracking started at Starter, and Slack or Discord
delivery at Pro. gummysearch.com/pricing still showed all of it on 18 September 2026, and none of
it can be bought.

### Was GummySearch made by one person?
Yes. GummySearch's founder built and ran it alone for four years, by their own account on the
closure pages, and signed both the 6 November and the 30 November 2025 notices. The
announcement puts its users at "over 135,000 founders, marketers, and investors", and the closure
notice 24 days later at "over 140,000". Both read from gummysearch.com on 18 September 2026.

### Can I still sign up for GummySearch?
No. GummySearch closed new account signups on 30 November 2025 and switched the free tier off the
same day. The home page and the pricing page both carry a banner saying the product is closed, read on
18 September 2026, and the old plans are still listed behind it.

### What happens to my GummySearch data?
Free GummySearch accounts can log in to view, download or delete their data, and nothing else. Paid accounts
keep full access until their billing period ends. Every account is scheduled for automatic
deletion in December 2026, and the announcement page dates the full shutdown, with all user data
deleted, at 1 December 2026. Export before then.

### What are some good alternatives to GummySearch?
The right alternative depends on which half of GummySearch you used. For tracking keywords and hearing about new mentions, a Reddit
monitoring tool such as Redwatcher, from $29 a month, with every match scored for relevance before
it is sent. For browsing and analysing communities in bulk there is no equivalent in the monitoring
category, and the tools on GummySearch's own alternatives list are mostly lead-generation
products, which are a different kind of tool.

### How was GummySearch used for research?
GummySearch's pricing page, gummysearch.com/pricing, describes the research side: discovering
communities, keyword search across Reddit and subreddit insights on every plan, customer
development and pattern finding with AI from $29, and content performance reports, trending
subreddits and product reviews from $59. The home page says it was for ideating startups,
validating demand, inspiring content and finding sales leads. Read on 18 September 2026.

### Does Redwatcher replace GummySearch?
Redwatcher replaces the keyword-tracking half of GummySearch. It watches the subreddits you choose for your
keywords, brand and competitors, scores every match from 0 to 100 with the reasons, and alerts by
email, Slack, Telegram or webhook, from $29 a month per project. It does not browse, rank or
profile communities, and it does not write replies.
