The best Syften alternative for Reddit monitoring in 2026

Updated 30 August 2026 · figures checked against each vendor's own pricing page

In short

Syften's headline price is $29.95, and AI filtering starts at $49.95. The entry plan gives you three community filters, 100 results a day and email — the rules are yours to write and maintain, and nothing judges a match before it is sent.

Redwatcher scores every match from 0 to 100 on every plan, from $29, with the reasons attached, 25 keywords, 25 subreddits, email, Slack, Telegram and webhooks, and no daily cap on what reaches you. Syften spreads the same three filters and the same hundred daily results across Reddit, Hacker News, Stack Exchange, GitHub, podcasts and the open web, so what is left for Reddit is a fraction of a small number.

Syften has been running since 2019 and watches Reddit alongside Hacker News, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Indie Hackers, GitHub, Stack Exchange, Discourse forums, YouTube, podcasts and the open web. You write filters — search queries — and matches arrive by email, or by Slack and webhook if you are on a plan that includes them.

Redwatcher is a Reddit monitoring tool that scores every keyword match for relevance before it alerts you.

How we checked

Read off their own pages. Every Syften price, filter count and daily limit below comes from syften.com/pricing, tier by tier, including the FAQ at the bottom of that page, and the filter syntax from their documentation.

Checked 30 August 2026. Tiers move. Check their page before you pay.

We have not run their paid plans. Everything here is what Syften publishes about itself. Where we describe our own product we are the source, and we have said so.

We got this wrong once. Our own data file said Syften had no relevance scoring at all until we re-read the pricing page on 30 August 2026. It has AI filtering, from $49.95.

Why people look for a Syften alternative

The number on Syften's pricing page is $29.95. The plan that filters noise out of your alerts is $49.95. Between the two sits the difference between reading everything a search query matched and reading what a model thought was worth your time.

At $29.95 you get three community filters and 100 community results a day. A filter is a search query and one query can hold several terms, but filters are also how you tell one kind of alert from another — your brand, a competitor, the phrases people use when they have the problem you solve. Kept separate the way you would want them, that is your three. Slack, the API and AI filtering all start on the next plan up. Webhooks start on the one above that, at $119.95.

The daily limit is worth reading twice as well. 100 results a day is an account-wide ceiling, not a per-filter one, so a single busy term can consume the allowance the other two filters were meant to use.

One match, two tools

hiring a Klaviyo freelancer for a 3-month contract

"Remote, part-time, mostly flow builds and deliverability cleanup. DM with rates."

— r/marketing, a post matching the keyword Klaviyo

Syften's $29.95 plan sends it. Your filter matched the word, so it becomes an alert, and it spends one of the hundred results the day allows. The next one is a job post too. Excluding them means going back and rewriting the query by hand, and a query tight enough to drop this one usually drops the buying question next to it.

Redwatcher scores it 24 and holds it back. The reason it gives: the brand is named, but a job post holds nothing to answer. It never reaches Slack. It is counted under Skipped, where you can open it and check the call, and your alerts that day are the three threads where somebody was choosing a tool.

Three rows decide which plan you are actually on. AI filtering starts at $49.95, described by Syften as "filter noisy matches before they reach your alerts". Slack and the API start there too. And webhooks start at $119.95, with the MCP server alongside them.

So the plan to compare against $29 is $49.95, not $29.95. That is the cheapest Syften tier that judges a match before sending it, and it still holds you to 200 results a day and no webhooks.

X/Twitter and YouTube are priced as add-ons on top of Standard and PRO rather than included, which is easy to miss when reading the source list.

What the other sources cost you on Reddit

Syften's source list is long — Hacker News, Stack Exchange, GitHub, Discourse forums, Indie Hackers, podcasts, Slack communities, mailing lists and more sit in the same "communities" bucket as Reddit. The allowance does not grow to cover them. Three filters and 100 results a day at $29.95 are the whole account, across every source at once.

So a busy Hacker News thread and a GitHub issue spend the same hundred that your Reddit monitoring needed. There is no Reddit allowance to protect, and no way to say "these ten subreddits" and have that be the budget.

Redwatcher points the whole plan at Reddit. Twenty-five keywords and twenty-five named subreddits at $29, posts and comments, nothing shared with another source and no daily ceiling. On the question these pages are about — watching Reddit and being told what is worth answering — that is more Reddit coverage for less money, and every match is scored before it is sent.

Where Syften stops

The limits, tier by tier

What the product actually does with a match

Five things happen to every thread before you see it, and they are what the score is for rather than a number on its own.

It tells you why, in a sentence. Not high, medium or low — the actual reason. "A buying decision in progress, with the requirements and the budget stated" scores 94. "The brand is named, but a job post holds nothing to answer" scores 24. The reason is on the thread, so you can disagree with it.

It shows you what it held back. The inbox counts Relevant, Skipped and All side by side — 3, 41, 44 on a normal day. Nothing is silently dropped, and you can open the skipped pile and audit the calls. A filter you cannot audit is a filter you end up not trusting.

You correct it in one click, and it learns. If a score is wrong, say so on the thread. That writes a scoring rule, re-scores the thread, and every later match is judged against the rule. The bar becomes yours over a week instead of staying a setting you guessed at on day one.

It shows where the match landed. The matched term is highlighted in the title or the body, and the thread says which — so you can see at a glance whether the post is about your term or merely mentions it in passing.

Setup reads your website. Give it your domain and it comes back with the subreddits to watch, the keywords, your competitors, the spellings people actually use, and starting scoring rules. It also flags a term that is too ambiguous to monitor before you commit a keyword to it, and checks every subreddit against Reddit as you add it.

Then: email, Slack, Telegram or a signed webhook, every one on every plan, each with a test button that sends a real message. Slack and Telegram install in one click — no bot token, no chat id, no pasted webhook URL. Unlimited seats, and a project switcher if you watch more than one brand.

What Redwatcher does differently

Every match gets a score from 0 to 100 before anything is sent, on every plan, with no separate charge and no filter budget. It is what Redwatcher does, and the pricing says so on every tier. You set the bar, and only matches above it reach you. The rest stay in the app, counted, so you can see what was held back.

The unit is different too. Syften sells filters, which are queries you compose and keep tuning. Redwatcher takes plain keywords and a list of subreddits — 25 of each at $29 — and does the judging in context, reading the thread rather than the sentence. A keyword that is too broad to be a good query is fine here, because the score is what decides.

You can still write your own rules when the bar needs to reflect something specific to you. The score comes with its reasons. A thread that scores 94 says why: someone is asking for a recommendation, they named a budget, and no vendor has answered yet. If the score is wrong, there is a button that says so. Correcting it adds a rule, the thread is scored again, and later matches use the rule.

Projects are separate. Each one carries its own keywords, subreddits, scoring rules and alert channels, and is priced on its own size.

We do not write replies and we do not post them. That is a deliberate limit, and it is not planned.

Which one to pick

Redwatcher, for Reddit. It is the only one of the two that scores every match before sending it on the plan you actually buy, it gives you 25 keywords and 25 named subreddits against three shared filters, and nothing is capped per day. Every alert channel comes with it, webhooks included.

Syften, if what you really need is Hacker News, X and forum coverage and Reddit is incidental to that. On Reddit alone it costs more, filters less and caps what reaches you.

Five other tools are scored and priced in the best Reddit monitoring tools, where Syften sits third on 43 out of 100 and Redwatcher first on 100.

Moving off Syften

Your filters do not translate one for one, and that is the point of the move. Take the terms inside them — the brand, the product, the competitors, the phrases people use when they have the problem — and paste those in as keywords. Then give us your website and we will suggest the subreddits to watch. Set your score bar, point alerts at email, Slack, Telegram or a webhook, and leave it. Trial runs seven days and takes no card.

If Reddit is not the point and you need Hacker News, X and forums covered as well, Syften is built for that and Redwatcher is not.

Does Syften have AI filtering?

Yes, from the Standard plan at $49.95 a month. Syften describes it as filtering noisy matches before they reach your alerts. The $29.95 entry plan does not include it, so on that tier every match your filter catches is sent.

How much does Syften cost?

$29.95 a month for Entry, $49.95 for Standard and $119.95 for Syften PRO, with custom pricing above that. There is a 14-day free trial on the PRO plan and no card is required.

What is a Syften filter?

A search query for the mentions you want to track. Entry includes three community filters and one web filter, Standard twenty and five, PRO a hundred and twenty. Writing and maintaining the query is your job on every tier.

Does Syften send alerts to Slack?

Yes, from the Standard plan at $49.95 a month. Webhooks start at $119.95 on Syften PRO, alongside the MCP server. Redwatcher includes email, Slack, Telegram and webhooks on every plan.

Does Syften limit how many results you get?

Yes. The cap is a daily one on the whole account: 100 community results a day on Entry, 200 on Standard and 500 on PRO, plus a separate and much smaller web allowance. Redwatcher does not cap what reaches you.

Does Syften monitor Reddit comments as well as posts?

Yes, both, and its FAQ describes tracking posts and comments for keywords, brand names, competitors and problem phrases.

Does Syften cover X/Twitter and YouTube?

Yes, and both are sold as paid add-ons on top of the Standard and PRO plans rather than being part of them.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Syften?

F5Bot has a free tier of 5 keywords and 20 alerts a day, with a two-hour delay and ads in the email, which it marks personal use only. Among paid tools, Redwatcher is $29 a month with relevance scoring on that plan, against Syften's $49.95 for the tier that carries it.

Does Redwatcher post replies for me?

No. It finds the thread, scores it, tells you why it scored that way and links you to it. The reply is yours.
