What arrives in Telegram?

A Redwatcher alert in Telegram is one message per thread from the Redwatcher bot, sent to you directly or into a group you chose. The first line carries the score out of 100 in bold, whether the match is a post or a comment, the subreddit and the project, which is one brand or client on Redwatcher with its own keywords, subreddits and channels. The second line says how long ago the thread was posted and the time in UTC. Then the title in bold, the first part of the text up to 400 characters, and a line in italics that starts why and gives the reason for the score. The message ends with two links: Open the thread, which goes to Reddit, and Wrong scoring, which opens a page for that thread where you say what was wrong with the score, and the answer becomes a rule that every later match is judged against.

How do you connect Telegram to Redwatcher?

To connect Telegram, choose Telegram among the four channels on the Alerts step of setup, or on the Setup screen of a project that already exists, and press Connect Telegram. Telegram opens in a new tab with the Redwatcher bot, you press Start, and the Setup page picks the connection up on its own: the channel shows as connected, with nothing to paste. You do not need a bot token or a chat id. The link Telegram opened is good for 15 minutes. If you press Start and the channel does not show as connected, reload the Setup page, or press Connect Telegram again for a fresh link. A Send a test button then sends a real message so you see one arrive before the first alert. The Alerts step is the last one in setup, and it can be finished later from Setup, so a project can start checking Reddit before Telegram is connected.

How do you post Reddit alerts into a Telegram group?

Reddit alerts go into a Telegram group when you press Post into a group instead under the Connect Telegram button and then Choose a group: Telegram asks which group, adds the Redwatcher bot to it, and the Setup page picks the connection up the same way as a direct message. If the bot is already in the group, Setup shows a short message to send in that group instead, and sending it connects the group. Everyone in the group then sees every alert, so a team that answers threads together can share one group, and an agency can give each client's project its own group.

When does a Telegram alert go out?

A Telegram alert goes out every time a thread clears your bar, which is the minimum score you set for a thread to be sent. Of the four channels, Telegram suits a person or a small group reading on a phone, because the message is short and the score comes first. Slack suits a team that answers threads together from one channel, and Reddit alerts to Slack describes that message. Email suits anyone who works from an inbox, and Reddit alerts by email describes that one. The webhook suits Zapier, Make or your own system. A project can have more than one channel, and the same thread goes to each of them.

What does the Telegram integration not do?
