What arrives in Slack?

A Redwatcher alert in Slack is one message per thread, posted by Redwatcher as an app into the channel you chose. The message carries the score out of 100, whether the match is a post or a comment, the subreddit, how long ago it was posted, the title, the matching text, and a line that starts Why and gives the reason for the score. Under it are three buttons: View on Reddit, which opens the thread, Wrong scoring, which opens a page where you say what was wrong with the score and the answer becomes a rule that every later match is judged against, and Open inbox, which opens the project's inbox, where every match is kept with its score. A footer names the project, which is one brand or client on Redwatcher with its own keywords, subreddits and channels, and the term that matched. In the screenshot below the thread scored 94, and the reason says it is a buying decision in progress, with the requirements and the budget stated.

How do you connect Slack to Redwatcher?

To connect Slack, choose Slack among the four channels on the Alerts step of setup, or on the Setup screen of a project that already exists, and press Add to Slack. Slack then asks which channel Redwatcher should post in, and that is the only permission it asks for: Redwatcher can post into that channel and nothing else in your workspace. Back in Setup the channel shows as connected, with nothing to paste or keep, and a Send a test button posts a real message so you see it arrive before the first alert. To post somewhere else, reconnect and pick a different channel. The Alerts step is the last one in setup, and it can be finished later from Setup, so a project can be created first and connected to Slack afterwards.

When does a Slack alert go out?

A Slack alert goes out every time a thread clears your bar, which is the minimum score you set for a thread to be sent. The alert goes out as soon as Redwatcher has scored the thread above your bar, and Redwatcher checks every subreddit you track around the clock, multiple times every hour, on every plan. Of the four channels, Slack suits a team that answers threads together from one channel. Telegram suits a person or a small group reading on a phone. Email suits anyone who works from an inbox, and each time Redwatcher checks, every thread that cleared the bar arrives together in one message. The webhook suits Zapier, Make or your own system. A project can have more than one channel, and the same thread goes to each of them.

What if your workspace needs admin approval for apps?

If your Slack workspace needs an admin to approve new apps, Redwatcher has a second path that needs no app: press Paste a webhook URL instead. In Slack, open Apps, choose Incoming Webhooks, press Add to Slack there, pick the channel, and paste the URL Slack gives you into Redwatcher's Incoming webhook URL field. The alert that arrives is the same message, and the Send a test button works the same way. A link under the webhook URL field takes you back to the Add to Slack button if the approval comes through later.

Who sees a Redwatcher alert in Slack?

Every member of the channel sees a Redwatcher alert, so whoever answers threads for the brand can take one without logging in to Redwatcher. What does the Slack integration not do?
