What arrives by email?

A Redwatcher alert email is one message per check, sent from alerts@redwatcher.com. It carries the threads that cleared your bar in that check, the first five as cards and the rest as a count. Your bar is the minimum score you set for a thread to be sent. Each card carries the score out of 100, whether the match is a post or a comment, the subreddit, how long ago it was posted, the title as a link to the thread, up to 380 characters of the text, a line that starts Why and gives the reasons for the score, a Wrong scoring link, and the term from your project that matched. Five cards are shown. When there were more, a line under them says how many more are in the project's inbox, which is the screen in Redwatcher where every match is kept with its score. An Open your inbox button opens it. A footer names the project the email came from.

What does the subject line of a Reddit alert email say?

The subject line of a Redwatcher alert email starts with the score, then the subreddit and the title, when one thread cleared the bar, like 94/100 · r/smallbusiness and then the thread's title. When several did, it says how many, like 3 threads worth your attention, and then the project's name. The email's preview text, a short line sent along with the subject, carries the subreddit and the first reason when there is one thread, and the top score and the number of subreddits when there are several.

How do you connect email to Redwatcher?

To connect email, choose Email among the four channels on the Alerts step of setup, or on the Setup screen of a project that already exists, type an address into Send to, and save. Setup offers the address you signed in with, and you can type any other, including a shared one. A Send a test button sends a real message so you see one arrive before the first alert. To send to more than one address, add Email more than once, one address each time. Each address is its own channel, so one person can unsubscribe without stopping the others. The Alerts step is the last one in setup, and it can be finished later from Setup, so a project can start checking Reddit before you have typed an address.

When does the email go out?

The email goes out at the end of a check in which at least one thread cleared your bar, and Redwatcher checks every subreddit you track around the clock, multiple times every hour, on every plan. Of the four channels, email suits anyone who works from an inbox and wants the threads from one check together. Slack suits a team that answers threads together from one channel, and Reddit alerts to Slack describes that message. Telegram suits a person or a small group reading on a phone, and Reddit alerts to Telegram describes that one. The webhook suits Zapier, Make or your own system. A project can have more than one channel, and the same thread goes to each of them.

How do you stop the emails?

The emails stop when you press Remove on the Email row of the project's Setup, or, if your mail client shows an unsubscribe button for them, when you press that. Every alert email carries the List-Unsubscribe headers. Those are the lines in a message that tell a mail client to show an unsubscribe button. If your mail client shows one, pressing it switches off the email channel for the address that email was sent to, on that one project and nothing else. The project keeps checking its subreddits, every thread above your bar still goes to the inbox, and any other channel keeps receiving. Switching it back on is done in Setup.

What does the email integration not do?

Redwatcher's email integration does not read anything in your mailbox, and Redwatcher does not write or post replies on Reddit, because posting under your name carries account consequences that have been publicly reported. The title of each card takes you to the thread and you write the answer from your own account.

Can you fix a wrong Redwatcher score from the alert email?

A wrong score can be corrected from the email on Redwatcher: the Wrong scoring link on the card opens a page for that thread where you say what was wrong, and it becomes a rule that every later match is judged against. The thread is re-scored, and the rule is kept with the project's other scoring rules, where it can be read and edited later.

Does a Redwatcher alert email include every matching thread?

A Redwatcher alert email carries, as cards, the first five threads that cleared your bar in the check that sent it, and when there were more than five, a line under them says how many more are in the inbox. The Open your inbox button opens the project's inbox, where every match is kept with its score, including the ones past the fifth. Threads under your bar are not included.
